QCQs CH6-9

QCQ1: “ I am convinced we have a degree of delight, and that no small one, in the real misfortunes and pains of others”. (97) There is most definitely a devious desire in all humans to view and understand the morbid and grotesque. However, if we were not drawn to these misfortunes, would they have the same impact on us? Can we really feel for these terrible acts without first feeling tantalized by them?

QCQ2: “in a world saturated, no, hyper-saturated with images, those that should matter have a diminishing effect: we become callous. In the end, such images just make us a little less able to feel, to have our conscience pricked”. (105) There is such a flush of media in our modern world that it becomes hard to determine what is and what is not worth viewing. If we view the wrong images it affects how we view the “right” ones. Yet there is no specific set of right or wrong images as media is mainly interpretation based. How can we determine what images we should and shouldn’t see, and how should we respond to both types of media when it shows up?
