When beginning the project for my major explorations essay I took an in-depth dive into the English degree. This assignment prompted me to read about requirements for my major, the different courses available, learning outcomes, possible future jobs, and much more. By visiting a variety of UNE’s websites I was able to collect a plethora of information about my major. This project encouraged me to understand my major in a much deeper way than previously. Before writing this essay, the class read Boyer to discuss ideal enrichment in college. With this background, I was able to further analyze all of the information I had collected. This perspective of vocational vs. critical thinking drove my essay’s thesis, as I felt the english degree may be lacking some vocational enrichments. After writing this essay I felt the need to double major with English and Communications. This project helped me understand my major in ways I wouldn’t have before. Without this project I would have a very little understanding of the mechanics of my major, however, thanks to this project I have an in-depth understanding of my degree and how to utilize all components of my degree.
