How have disabled people been categorized and how have they recategorized themselves?

Dating back centuries disabled people have been categorized as a hindrance to the rest of the population. Centuries ago disabled children were hidden away from the world by parents. In recent decades Hitler continued to target people with disabilities, going as far as torture and murder. In more recent years, a movement for disabled people has begun. Although quiet, this movement encompasses rights such as wheelchair accessibility, public representation, and an overall reform of the term “disability.” Originally categorized as a hindrance, people with disabilities have recategorized themselves through a fight to re-humanize themselves. After years of horrendous discrimination, people with disabilities have fought to finally become accepted in the way anyone else would be.
