QCQ#4
“The room that afternoon was full of such shy creatures, lights and shadows, curtains blowing, petals falling — things that never happen, so it seems, if someone is looking.”
I picked this quote because the language seems so innocent and light. I picked up on the contrast of the “light” and “blowing” atmosphere in the beginning of the sentence, and the suspense at the end. The word “shy” personifies the room in a way that is so subtle a reader probable wouldn’t initially pick up on it. As such, in many ways it seems this quote is a turning point in the story.
How does this light-hearted motion become the darker motion we see later in the story?
