Journal #25
I was surprised by how nervous I was about my interview today; it almost felt like I was applying for a real job. The added pressure of other people observing made it more stressful for me; however, I appreciated getting to be an observer. My interview went well; I stumbled over a few questions, but I could answer everyone, and I didn’t freeze. Once I was done with the interview, I could just shake off the nerves and analyze how I thought I did. I expected that being on the committee would be much easier for me, and it was. Speaking for a group can be easier than speaking for me sometimes. I was able to ask and answer questions relatively smoothly. There was one question about our healthcare that did stump me; however, it ended up being a funny situation, and we were able to move on smoothly. I think the most stressful part of interviewing people was having to modify questions on the spot. There were a handful of times that an applicant had already answered my question in conjunction with a previous question. As such, when it was my turn to ask, I had to modify the question and make it more specific or broad in order to get more/different answers. Overall, this was really good practice for everyone, and I know it was good practice for me. Although stressful, I was able to get more used to working under that kind of pressure, which will be beneficial in the long run.
