WRT317 Journal #1
Through WRT317, or proposal and grant writing, I hope to develop my professional writing skills. As an aspiring journalist, learning how to pack information into each sentence and write in a condensed, professional, and informative manner is crucial. I hope that workshopping my writing in large groups will give me insight into how other people interpret my language and overall writing. Again, understanding how people perceive what I write is so important for any type of news writing. Learning how to tune a grant or proposal to a company will teach me how to write for a specific audience, incorporating techniques and skills, including ethos, pathos, logos, and more. Additionally, presenting my proposal for a final project will push me to practice explaining my work. As a writer, I often assume that my work is self-explanatory, so walking through and presenting each step will likely teach me how the organization, structure, and diction in my writing can be improved and help make my writing even more accessible.
