Freewrite Poem #4

Poetry Creative Writing Twice a week we conjugate in a circle writers and scientists  fourteen minds connected Sharing the elegance of language  poetic prosperity begins to seep Into the very walls of our room The circles energy pulsates Our thoughts pop and burst  Until Marcil expands  Hot energy running  out every door Metaphors melt into hot puddles on the sidewalks And similes streak across campus We fill our minds with each other’s thoughts One spits out ideas for another Like…

QCQ1: “The shift toward business and away from the liberal arts has been described as the new vocationalism in higher education”(218) The technical aspects behind a degree are incredibly important. Yet we need to find a balance of the technical and structural aspects. How can higher education “properly” balance the vocational and logical roles in each degree and what would be considered a “proper” balance? QCQ2: “work is basically the way that people seek to redeem their lives from futility….

Dream Poem

Dream Poem

A dream of addiction  Conquers my rest Images of a boy Flash through my senseless mind Even in my dreams I cannot escape  My love for him His worked hands holding my soft ones Brown eyes dance through my dreams And his smile flashes me awake I roll over to see him on my phone Smiling in his sleep Does he dream of me as well?

QCQ1: “Getting too close to your subject is a major danger, but not getting to know her well enough is just as likely”(129). It is hard to find a balance between knowing someone personally and simply knowing someone. This idea also balances with the concerns of manipulating emotions and relationships for information. To what level should a journalist become emotionally attached to their subject, and are journalists expected to become attached to a certain extent so as to not seem…

Called on He calls me to speak Dear God why me Flushed cheeks spit out my words My mind goes numb Dear God why me Where do I begin My mind goes numb Sputter until I speak Where do I begin Stiff eyes fall to me Sputter until I speak Wipe wet hands on pants Stiff eyes fall to me All of my air has leaked from my lungs Wipe wet hands on pants  Flushed cheeks spit out my words…

Ram Island

Ram Island

Last week I visited Ram Island with a group of peers. We spent almost two hours on this small island collecting trash, observing biodiversity, and learning about the land’s history. Collectively we removed rubber, metal, plastic, and more from the beaches. The island itself was donated to the University of New England after the owners were unable to sell the land and its accompanying home. Ever since the island was gifted, small teams have boated out to begin cleaning the…

Bush Luncheon

Bush Luncheon

The first extracurricular activity I participated in for my Lil120 class was the Bush luncheon. I, along with a few peers, was invited to meet Jean Becker, President Bush’s Chief of Staff. Nervously, I arrived half an hour early and found myself in an empty room. I decided to spend my spare time observing the exhibits at UNE’s Bush museum exhibit. Surprisingly, I looked up from Bush’s fishing supplies to come face to face with Mrs. Becker. I introduced myself,…

The Dark Web

The Dark Web

Garnet gore splashes my screens blue lights massacre my eyes Bloodshot viewing blood Flushed faces drained of life watch Yellow bodies marched into their graves My phone shows me whatever I want One click away is grotesque grime Filth illuminated in my fingers Dripping from my mind Pooling and clotting through my brain Devious desires lead to devastation  And desires are easily fulfilled When blue light splashes with crimson

QCQs CH6-9

QCQ1: “ I am convinced we have a degree of delight, and that no small one, in the real misfortunes and pains of others”. (97) There is most definitely a devious desire in all humans to view and understand the morbid and grotesque. However, if we were not drawn to these misfortunes, would they have the same impact on us? Can we really feel for these terrible acts without first feeling tantalized by them? QCQ2: “in a world saturated, no,…

QCQs CH 3-5

QCQ1: “Christian saints, feel admonished or inspired by model faith and fortitude–but these are destinies beyond deploring or contesting”. I agree that there is more to following a discipline than shaming others for following the discipline poorly or not at all. Rarely do people make a change, but often people shame others for not changing as well. Would it be plausible to have a movement without the distinction of leaders and followers (of those who act and those who deplore)? …
