I was surprised by how nervous I was about my interview today; it almost felt like I was applying for a real job. The added pressure of other people observing made it more stressful for me; however, I appreciated getting to be an observer. My interview went well; I stumbled over a few questions, but I could answer everyone, and I didn’t freeze. Once I was done with the interview, I could just shake off the nerves and analyze how…

The mock interviews were very helpful! I enjoyed hearing some of the questions the hiring committees and interviewees posed. However, I think that hearing about the interviews gave me more anxiety about my interview. I am pretty nervous and don’t know what questions I should ask at the end of my interview; I didn’t want my questions to sound too nitpicky or negative. So I think being able to hear other people’s questions will help me shape my own. Overall,…

Dry-Run Interview Questions (Interviewer to Interviewee): – What makes you the right candidate for this position? This question allows the interviewer to gage why the candidate is applying as well as the strengths a candidate will bring to the position. – Tell me about why you want to work with students. This question is vital because the position will need an employee who enjoys students and works with them well. Understanding the kind of relationship the employee would have with…

For this portion of the project, my group divided the different sections of the job description. I chose to work with the minor responsibilities and the job title. We decided to work with my job description draft from journal #19, so we discussed the edits we wanted to make and then began making them for our sections. I feel best about our job description and the major/minor duties. Going into the class, I felt somewhat confident about my rough draft;…

The first thing that stood out to me in this chapter is such a simple, yet often ignored courtesy: turning off a cell phone. In today’s world everyone has a phone, however not everyone was raised with technological manners. It is important to make sure your phone is silenced during an interview, or in any other important/professional setting. Having a phone go off can be portrayed as disrespectful, rude, or make you appear uninterested . Although this is something I…

Now that the project is over, I would say that my group did well. We all worked divided the work evenly and contributed ideas in regards to formatting, context, and organization. We were able to make a group-chat and interact outside of class, which was helpful during the work/writing process (as opposed to the collecting and publishing process). That way, everyone came into class with their work ready and the team was able to discuss big-picture topics. I think the…

The two subjects that I found interesting this chapter were the conversational aspects of interviews and the section on questions. In regard to the conversational aspect of interviews, I resonated with the phrase “interviews are both similar to and different from normal conversations” (p.g. 301). As a journalist, I have to regularly conduct interviews and collect information. It is important for me to make the person I am interviewing feel comfortable, which is where the conversational aspect plays its role….

In class today, my team made some final adjustments to the format of our website. I recommended adding buttons to the bottom of our pages for accessibility, which made navigation so much easier. We also separated the lessons on our “Big Lessons” page. For peer review, my team and I compiled our notes into a document and used that for the discussion. I complimented one team’s use of contact information on their resources page, and I recommended another group rotate…
