One Minute Podcast

One Minute Podcast

For this assignment students were asked to download a recording app and create a one minute sample podcast. After I dowloaded my app, I began learning how to collect and alter media with the tools available to me. I was able to add music, record, and splice my audio. This assignment helped me learn how to begin creating my college story podcast.

Major Exploration; Why it Matters

Major Exploration; Why it Matters

When beginning the project for my major explorations essay I took an in-depth dive into the English degree. This assignment prompted me to read about requirements for my major, the different courses available, learning outcomes, possible future jobs, and much more. By visiting a variety of UNE’s websites I was able to collect a plethora of information about my major. This project encouraged me to understand my major in a much deeper way than previously. Before writing this essay, the…

Goal Setting Project; Why it Matters

Goal Setting Project; Why it Matters

The first project I completed for my Lil120 class was my goal setting essay. This project prompted the class to create 2 academic, extracurricular, and personal goals for themselves, one short-term and one long-term. Based on previous reading by scholars Ungar, Dweck, and Schyuer, students drew text to text connections from their goals to the themes from our texts. In my project, I wrote one paragraph for each goal (6 paragraphs). Separating and expanding my goals in this format helped…

A Domain of Ones Own QCQ

A Domain of Ones Own QCQ

QCQ: “They can think about how these technologies shape the formation of their understanding of the world – how knowledge is formed and shared; how identity is formed and expressed” (Watters). By creating my own ePortfolio I am able to insert myself into the sharing of information worldwide. It creates a foundation for me to begin sharing my work, and learning from others’ works. How can my ePortfolio continue to evolve in a way which will help me create a…

The Ecstacy of Influence QCQs

The Ecstacy of Influence QCQs

QCQ1: “Yet what were these words worth—to Siegel, or Silliphant, or their audience—in 1958? And again: what was the line worth when Bob Dylan heard it?” Art is made for interpretation. Does copywriting become “better” if its interpretation instead of upright plagiarism? Because art is made to be interpreted by the public, is inspiration based on the interpretation considered plagiarism, and what is the line between interpretation and plagiarism? Is there a tangible line? QCQ2: “copyright is a ‘right’ in…

Connections Two Paragraphs and Interview Questions

Connections Two Paragraphs and Interview Questions

Career/Tech v. Liberal Learn In readings such as Scheuer and Ungar we were introduced to the idea that the liberal arts is thought to be decreasing in comparison to trades. However, both articles went on to explain that this thought is based on false assumptions. In reality, Liberal Arts provides communication and creative thinking skills that are needed for any profession, even trades. Both Scheuer and Ungar explain that Liberal art skills are vital and should be implemented in all…

Boyer QCQs

QCQ1: “The shift toward business and away from the liberal arts has been described as the new vocationalism in higher education”(218) The technical aspects behind a degree are incredibly important. Yet we need to find a balance of the technical and structural aspects. How can higher education “properly” balance the vocational and logical roles in each degree and what would be considered a “proper” balance? QCQ2: “work is basically the way that people seek to redeem their lives from futility….

QCQ1: “Getting too close to your subject is a major danger, but not getting to know her well enough is just as likely”(129). It is hard to find a balance between knowing someone personally and simply knowing someone. This idea also balances with the concerns of manipulating emotions and relationships for information. To what level should a journalist become emotionally attached to their subject, and are journalists expected to become attached to a certain extent so as to not seem…

Ram Island

Ram Island

Last week I visited Ram Island with a group of peers. We spent almost two hours on this small island collecting trash, observing biodiversity, and learning about the land’s history. Collectively we removed rubber, metal, plastic, and more from the beaches. The island itself was donated to the University of New England after the owners were unable to sell the land and its accompanying home. Ever since the island was gifted, small teams have boated out to begin cleaning the…

Bush Luncheon

Bush Luncheon

The first extracurricular activity I participated in for my Lil120 class was the Bush luncheon. I, along with a few peers, was invited to meet Jean Becker, President Bush’s Chief of Staff. Nervously, I arrived half an hour early and found myself in an empty room. I decided to spend my spare time observing the exhibits at UNE’s Bush museum exhibit. Surprisingly, I looked up from Bush’s fishing supplies to come face to face with Mrs. Becker. I introduced myself,…
