Journalism (CMM211)

Journalism (CMM211)

Official Course Description: “This course provides an overview of journalistic writing, reporting, and production across a variety of mediated contexts, including investigation of the role of the journalist historically and in the present day. Topics include news gathering and interviewing, reporting on public events, feature and headline writing, digital media, and journalistic law and ethics.”

My Description: This workshop-style class provides students with the basic tools needed to write a news article. Students are tasked with writing three articles: a feature, a profile, and one general coverage piece. Each story is then workshopped in class. In this course, you will learn how to structure a news article and are taught about ledes and nut graphs. Journalism law and ethics are touched upon, but only at a basic level.
